Education
Jan-Willem graduated from Leiden University in 2003 (majoring in Civil Law with a focus on Civil Procedure). His first job was at the largest legal expenses insurer in the Netherlands. There he came into contact with contract law and business cooperation forms, such as distribution, franchise and agency. It was the start of a fascination that has not left him since. In 2008 he became a lawyer and continued to study commercial contracts, especially franchise agreements, distribution agreements and agency agreements. Since January 1, 2023, he has been associated with DayOne.

Jan-Willem: "In my daily practice I mainly deal with commercial contracts, such as purchase, sales and delivery agreements, general terms and conditions, distribution and agency agreements. My practice has a major focus on franchise agreements and everything that comes with them. Examples include drafting, amending and assessing franchise agreements, advising on the Franchise Act, faulty forecasts, (post)contractual non-competition clauses, termination of cooperation, et cetera. In addition, conflict management is an integral part of my daily practice, which does not shy away from going to court or arbitration on behalf of the client if necessary. I do all this for franchisees, franchisee associations as well as (national and international) franchisors. With some regularity, I publish articles and blogs and also provide courses, webinars and podcasts."
Jan-Willem Kolenbrander has registered the following main and sub areas of law in the Register of Jurisdictions of the Dutch Bar Association:

Pursuant to this registration, he is obliged to obtain ten training points in each registered main area of law each calendar year according to the standards of the Dutch Bar Association.
