Peter van Dijk
After studying tax law (Leiden University), Peter joined a multidisciplinary firm with lawyers, tax specialists and notaries. He worked there for more than 20 years both as a tax lawyer and as a lawyer in a highly international corporate law practice. Before studying tax law, he completed a degree in history.
Within DayOne he is primarily responsible for the tax practice. In addition, as a lawyer he also has extensive experience with international companies and transactions.
How does Peter work
As a generalist, in addition to the tax field, Peter is frequently active in corporate law transactions, where he uses his knowledge and experience to identify and solve cases. Working together and matching the right people to the right cases is a core value.
In the tax field, he advises on domestic and international structures and transactions, in the areas of corporate income tax, value added tax, dividend withholding tax, real estate transfer tax and payroll tax. Peter has frequently been able to prevent or resolve problems in consultation with the tax authorities, in the form of preliminary consultations but also at the objection stage. He has also frequently concluded agreements with the Tax Authorities, also about the innovation box.
Peter and his team have litigated (successfully) up to the Supreme Court. He has frequently been involved in acquisitions, both in negotiations and due diligence as well as drafting agreements. He and his team also prepare corporate income tax, value added tax, dividend withholding tax and personal income tax returns.
Peter: "It is incredible fun, even after more than 20 years, to keep getting new questions and tackling new problems. That's what keeps the work so interesting. My broad experience allows me to come up with solutions in many areas. Of course, a quick solution is always best, but I certainly also see the charm of getting an issue which is stuck and stranded moving again. In tax matters, it is good to realize that the Tax Office is an authority you keep running into. Perhaps that is why long-term solutions that are acceptable to both parties are also in the client's interest."
