Gerben Metz

Admitted to the Bar: October 2010, member of the Dutch bar association
I value clear communication, good accessibility and short lines of communication. As a co-founder of DayOne in my 'early thirties', I understand better than anyone that my services must add value from an entrepreneurial perspective. So that is more than a legal argument. I seek that broadening in my teaching and as a deputy judge, among other things.

Gerben’s Way of Working

Gerben sets great store by plain communication and short lines with his clients and expects the same from his clients and discussion partners. He is convinced that dialogue is the best way to get results. High quality is a given, of course. If necessary, Gerben doesn’t shy away from litigation.
His clients’ legal issues often also touch on economic or strategic issues. From that perspective DayOne’s legal services should add value, in his opinion. In advising his clients Gerben finds it helps that he is an entrepreneur himself and easily accessible. His clients appreciate his views of entrepreneurship because they feel that he also takes responsibility for their challenges. That was the approach Gerben has taken right from the moment he joined the commercial practice of his colleague Vincent Breedveld. And his clients appreciate that approach.

Background

Degree in Dutch law (with an emphasis on private law), including honors program (2009). Post-graduate program in corporate and business law (Grotius academy 2016). Member of the Dutch Bar Association.
Besides working as a lawyer at DayOne, Gerben feels it is important to engage with the community. He recently joined SRA as a lecturer, teaching business law in a broad sense. For two years he was on the board of the Young Bar, the Hague chapter, the professional association for young lawyers. Every year Gerben and his co-workers organise ‘Recht in Beweging’, a run for and by people working at law firms, the Public Prosecution Service, courts, and the city of the Hague.  Moreover, he regularly gives workshops to clients, for instance on the GDPR and privacy law. Further, he acts as a deputy judge.
